Save Ya Skin
Something funny to start!
An evil genie captured an electrician and two of his friends. Before banishing them to the desert for a week, the genie allowed each person to bring one thing. The first friend brought a canteen so he wouldn’t die of thirst. The second friend brought an umbrella to keep himself from getting sunburned. The electrician brought a car door, because if it got too hot he could just roll down the window!
Look, that electrician might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but I have no doubt that the rest of you guys and girls are a bit more switched on than that.
Many of us tradies, including myself don't take much notice of a couple of hours out in the sun.
Turns out that all those "I'll be right mate, I'll only be out here for half an hour." takes its toll on our skin.
A new survey commissioned by Cancer Council Australia and the Australian Government has highlighted the invisible risk many tradies aren’t protecting themselves against.
Of the 600 tradies surveyed over 30% said they rarely applied sunscreen in the summer months. I'm not proud to say it but I would probably fall into that 30%.
If you have purchased The Trade Shade you are definitely taking a step in the right direction when it comes to sun safety at work. The only problem is what about all the times you spent outside fitting off a switchboard or repairing an air-conditioner before you had The Trade Shade?
If you're anything like me, which, lets face it most of us tradies are, you have probably neglected getting a skin check. Not long before I launched The Trade Shade I was in at the doctors getting a chest infection checked out when the doc noticed a dark mark on my back.
They ended up cutting out a pretty big chunk on my back which luckily came back all good. After that I made it a yearly thing to skip the pub one Friday and head in a get a skin check instead.
Its scary to think about it but around a third of tradies in Australia have been treated for skin cancer or a suspicious spot, and more than half of us know another tradesperson who had been diagnosed with skin cancer.
Among men it was estimated to be the second most commonly diagnosed cancer, second only to prostate cancer.
Enough of the doom and gloom. After reading up on these facts and figures I figured why not use my platform and company to try and change the way us tradies look at skin cancer and pull our finger out and GET A SKIN CHECK!
The big news!
We've partnered up with National Skin Cancer Centre's Australia to offer tradies a FREE LED light therapy with every skin check!
There's locations all across the country so you've got no excuse to book in!
Skip the pub this Friday and book yourself in! It could just save your life!
